The municipal swimming pools, the auditorium, the library and schools are some of the municipal buildings in Olhão that already have solar energy, as part of the commitment that the municipality is making on renewable energy.
In Municipal Swimming Pools, a solar thermal system was developed based on the installation of 50 solar collectors, which enable the production of thermal energy to heat sanitary water and swimming pools.
In the Auditorium and Municipal Library, microgeneration systems were installed based on 28 photovoltaic collectors with a view to producing electricity to be “injected” into the public network.
In the new elementary schools, no. 6 and 7, solar collectors for the production of thermal energy, to support kitchens and sanitary hot water, were integrated into the construction process.
According to the Chamber of Olhão, "the investment in the solar aspect enables a relatively quick recovery of investment, in about six to seven years, also promoting the reduction of dependence on fossil fuels and the consequent reduction of polluting gases."
In this way “the Municipality manages, in an environmentally clean way, to save considerably on energy costs”.
Olhão says it is, therefore, "complying with the national energy strategy ENE 2020, which is an impulse for the country to continue in the leadership of energy sustainability and meet the ambitious goals and objectives established internationally, with Portugal being one of the leaders in energy development renewable energy and promoting energy efficiency'.
