Pedro Barros was elected as the new president of the Academic Association of the University of Algarve (AAUAlg) in the elections that took place yesterday, Tuesday. The former and future president of the General Direction of the academic algarvia headed the only list to this body and got 83,11 percent of the votes.

The election results were only known this morning, but it was already certain that João Pedro Ferreira would be elected president of the Magna Assembly, as his list was the only candidate.

Another big name is Eduardo Almeida, who is also former president of AAUAlg and who will be the new treasurer of the General Management. The new bodies take office in January 2012.

In common, the two UAlg students have experience in associative life and are promoters of the project "Wake up your Academy", which integrates several generations of AAUAlg leaders and has taken on the objective of cleaning up the academic accounts, which are going through a bad time. .

high abstention

Students from the University of Algarve voted yesterday in elections for the different bodies of the Academic Association (AAUAlg) marked by having only single lists. In all, 1368 students attended the polls, less than in 2010, where there was also a predominance of single lists, which makes AAUAlg emphasize “the high abstention” on its website, where the data has already been released.

Pedro Barros, like the Sul Informação he had already advanced first hand, was elected with 83,11 percent of the votes, the result of 162 blank votes in the election for the General Directorate. In the Magna Assembly, the single list headed by João Pedro Ferreira, better known as «Pi», obtained a percentage of 77,43 votes in favor. For the Supervisory Board, the single list had as 1st element Sandrina Pereira and was elected with 73 percent of the votes.

The most expressive percentage of votes in favor, or the list with the fewest blank votes, was that of the Núcleo Pedagógico de Portimão, where 96,15 percent of voters approved the candidate list.
