The Municipality of Olhão, in collaboration with the Association for the Defense of Animals and Plants of Olhão (ADAPO) promotes, on November 12th and 13th, a campaign to adopt dogs and cats from the municipal kennel. A way to alert the population to the 'crime' that is the abandonment of animals.

There are more and more abandoned dogs and cats, which means that collection centers struggle daily with overcrowding problems. Thus, the Municipality of Olhão decided to carry out the campaign for the adoption of dogs and cats housed in the municipal kennel, whose main objective is to encourage adoption and make the population aware of this problem.

In this way, the Municipality also takes the opportunity to inform the population in general of the work developed in this area, translated into a very acceptable rate of adoptions (about 50 in the first nine months of the year).

The campaign will take place on the 12th, from 15:00 to 17:30, and on the 13th from 10:00 to 17:30, at Jardim Pescador Olhanense. At the site, clarification will be provided on the legal rules for the detention of canines and felines, which are still unknown to a large part of the population.

Animals that may be adopted will be free to fill out the health bulletin, sterilize, apply an identification microchip and, in the case of dogs, receive rabies vaccination.

As a result of this action, the third sterilization campaign will be carried out, in the same manner as the previous ones, on the 14th, 17th, 21st, 24th and 28th of November. After the success of the two previous stray animal sterilization campaigns promoted by the Municipality of Olhão, essential steps were taken to promote the effective control of stray populations, associated with uncontrolled reproduction.

The sterilization campaign continues to rely on the collaboration of ADAPO, the private veterinarians who carry out their activity in the municipality and some veterinary laboratories.
