Orquestra do Algarve gives a concert, on October 29, at 21 pm, at Igreja do Carmo, in Tavira.

The Orchestra will be directed by conductor Pedro Neves and will present works by Freitas Branco, Gounod and Beethoven.

Admission costs 8,50 euros, and tickets can be purchased on the same day at the concert venue.

Pedro Neves was born in 1975 in Águeda. His musical career begins at the Aveiro Conservatory, where he studied cello.

Later, he joined the National Academy of Orchestra, in Lisbon, where he completed his bachelor's degree in 1996.

In the same year, he received a scholarship from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation to continue his artistic improvement, at the Juan Pedro Carrero Music School, in Barcelona, ​​where he remained until 1999.

As a cellist, he participated in several formations, despite his interest in directing.

Pedro Neves was invited to direct the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra, the Tagus National Orchestra, the Beiras Filarmonia, the Portuguese Chamber Orchestra, the Algarve Orchestra, the Porto Casa da Música Symphony Orchestra, the Gulbenkian Orchestra, the Symphonic Orchestra Portuguese and the Esproarte Orchestra.

Pedro Neves is a professor at the Superior National Academy of Orchestra and principal conductor of the Orquestra Clássica de Espinho, where he develops a project with young musicians at the beginning of their professional careers.

He is currently a doctoral candidate at the University of Évora where he is attending a PhD on the six symphonies by Joly Braga Santos.

In April 2011 he assumed the position of principal conductor of the Orquestra do Algarve.
