The team consists of five elements and will work in the parishes of Santa Catarina da Fonte do Bispo, Santa Maria, Conceição and Cachopo.
It will be responsible for the development of forestry actions, fuel management, monitoring of controlled fires, fires, maintenance and improvement of the divisional network and fuel management bands and mosaics, maintenance and improvement of other infrastructures, surveillance and first intervention in forest fires, combat, aftermath and post-fire surveillance.
The Câmara de Tavira also considers that "these professionals will play an extremely important role in raising public awareness of the rules of conduct in matters of phytosanitary nature, prevention, the use of fire and the cleaning of forests."
The signed protocol includes annual support for the functioning of the team of forest sappers, in the amount of 35 thousand euros, which is intended to share the expenses arising from the hiring of elements, as well as a subsidy in the amount of 55.200 euros, intended for the acquisition of an all-terrain vehicle, collective and individual protection equipment.
Adding the amount invested by the municipality, the global investment is 97.200 euros.
