Linking cultural creation to the territory where it is presented and getting the population moving, in different ways, is the basis of the «Movimenta-te» network, which encompasses various artistic projects. The program has been on the street since the beginning of the year, but it will now enter a fundamental phase, marked by the call for public participation.
From the participation open to all foreseen in the show «Vale», by Madalena Victorino, which opens in November, to the recruitment of professional or experienced artists from the region, to include them in a new creation to debut in 2012, the involvement of the locals is recurrent.
This is the most visible result of the collaboration of the municipalities in the Algarve Central network of cities and is already seen as a good example of how one can go further with fewer resources, in other areas.
Faro, Loulé, Olhão, São Brás de Alportel and Tavira are the partners of the «Algarve central» network, one of the five networks created at national level under the Program co-financed by the European Union Polis XXI Cities Policy. Despite being very comprehensive, this partnership bore its first fruits in the cultural area, more precisely in the «Movimenta-te» program.
According to the Artistic Director of this program, Giacomo Scalisi, the optimization of resources, especially in a time of crisis, was one of the network's points of honor. Thus, almost all of the shows that are part of the program will go to the five municipalities, in addition to encouraging creation in the region itself.
On the other hand, there was a deep concern with the artistic quality and with the feeling of belonging to convey to the project. “We tried to ensure that the programming had to do with people and territory”, explained Giacomo Scalisi, in the presentation of “Movimenta-te”.
In order to try to achieve this fusion between artistic quality and belonging, the program responsible will bring together renowned creators, professional artists and until now anonymous citizens of the Algarve on the same stage. And they won't wait long to do it.
The show «Vale», by Madalena Victorino, with music by Carlos Bica, has already been scheduled for its premiere, but the cast is not yet closed. Anyone, "from 5 to 80 years old", can apply through their local authority until the end of September, as long as they live in the city or town where the show takes place.
In each municipality, 50 people will be selected, who will join the cast of the play, consisting of eight dancers and six musicians. «Vale» premieres on November 12 at Teatro das Figuras, in Faro and travels through the other municipalities of the «algarve Central» network until December.
In this case, the show already exists and has even won awards. But «Movimenta-te» also foresees a new creation, which will result from an artistic residency of three creators, including Madalena Victorino.
Starting in January, the Portuguese creator will be joined by choreographer Ainhoa Vidal and director Gonçalo Amorim. In addition to a professional ballet company, dancers, actors and performers from the region will participate in this show.
Here, the choice will be more careful, with the appeal being directed to professionals and people with experience in different areas. Applicants must send their CV and a photo by October 15th to the email [email protected]. The auditions will take place on October 19th and 20th, at a place to be designated.
Another of the actions planned in «Movimenta-te» for 2012 is the promotion of artistic laboratories aimed at the school public and families, as well as the organization of balls on spring evenings, to try to re-enact an old tradition.
As Giacomo Scalisi pointed out, the entire program of «Movimenta-te» focuses on autumn, winter and spring. "We want, above all, to attract those who live here to the shows," he explained.
