Cockle pasta, rice, porridge, rissoles, or natural cockles, made at the moment, are some of the delicacies available at the ninth edition of the Cockle Festival, which takes place on the weekend of September 10th and 11th at Polidesportivo da Figueira .
Musical entertainment will not be lacking either and on the first day includes a ball with Banda Atlantis and the show “Vânio Show and Namoradinhas do Brasil”, while on the following day, after the performance of organist and vocalist Vera Lúcia, the traditional music will be position of the Friends of Figueira.
The reason for this Festival is the fact that the local population continues to maintain a strong connection with the cockle picking in the Ria de Alvor, a means of survival for many families who depended on this activity.
The event will take place between 19:00 pm and 01:00 am and entry costs 3 euros, including a cockle saucer, organized by Sociedade Recreativa Figueirense, with the support of the Municipality of Portimão and the Parish Council of Mexilhoeira Grande.
