Castle, museum and graffiti mark the European Days of Culture in Silves

An exhibition on the history of the castle, free entrance to the Municipal Museum of Archeology, guided visits to the well-cistern and graffiti painting in the riverside are the way to mark the European Days of Culture in Silves, on the 23rd and 24th of September.

The program starts this Friday, the 23rd, with the opening of the exhibition “Silves, urban landscape – Two looks”, at 9:00 am, at Castelo de Silves.

The exhibition will be composed of old images of Silves that will contrast with recent images taken from the same angle, with the intention of showing two temporal moments of the urban landscape.

On the 23rd and 24th there will also be free entrances to the Silves Archeology Museum and guided visits to the cistern well (considered a national monument since 1990 and one of the city's ex-libris).

Visits take place every half hour, between 9:30 am and 12:00 pm and between 14:00 pm and 17:00 pm. This activity is subject to prior appointment.

With the aim of making known and exploring the city's urban landscape, with emphasis on its monuments and heritage, an activity of creative expression “Heritage and Landscape” will also be promoted during these two days in the riverside area of ​​the city of Silves – Graffiti”, conducted through the art of graffiti.

On the 23rd, the activities are aimed at the school community (from 14:00 pm to 18:00 pm) and on the 24th, to the general public (from 10:00 am to 13:00 pm and from 14:00 pm to 18:00 pm).

The European Heritage Days are an annual initiative of the Council of Europe and the European Union, which involves around 50 countries, in the context of raising awareness among European citizens of the importance of safeguarding Heritage.

At the national level, this event is coordinated by Igespar, which also defines the annual theme, with the participation this year of five hundred public and private entities, spread over 146 municipalities and localities, and which contemplate the realization of 590 activities, including exhibitions, conferences, workshops, competitions, guided tours, among others.
