August with 2,2% less hotel occupancy than in 2010

The average global occupancy rate/room, in the Algarve, last August, was 90,0%, that is, 2,2% lower than in the same month of 2010, revealed this Tuesday the Associação de Hotéis e Empreendimentos Tourist attractions in the Algarve (AHETA).

The biggest falls were found in the Vilamoura/Quarteira/Quinta do Lago area (-14,3%) and Monte Gordo/VRSA (-2,9%).

In the opposite direction, the main increase occurred in the Portimão/Praia da Rocha area (+2,6%).

Albufeira, the main tourist region in the Algarve, registered a decrease of 1,8%.

Despite the break, the Monte Gordo/VRSA was, even so, the one with the highest occupancy rate (94,3%), while Vilamoura/Quarteira/Quinta do Lago had the lowest, with 77,9%.  

With regard to the origin of tourists, the biggest increases were registered in the British (+14,2%) and Dutch (+22,3%) markets.

On the other hand, the sharp declines in the Portuguese (-5,6%) and Spanish (-14,1%) markets stand out. ·   

By category, the biggest declines were registered in 2* hotels and aparthotels (-3,9%) and in 4* hotels (-2,2%). No category recorded increases in occupancy rates.

Tourist villages and apartments and 3* hotels registered the highest occupations (95,4%).

With all this, the total turnover was down by 3,6%, while the accommodation income was down by 6%.
