The future and internationalization of medronho will be highlighted at “their” festival, which takes place on the 1st and 2nd of April, in Monchique. The debate “What is Portuguese is good! The internationalization of Medronho and other traditional/regional products" is one of the strong dishes of the event program.

In this session, scheduled for 15:15 pm on Saturday, the first day of the festival, the project “Algarve Store & Business Online“, by António Magalhães, NKA representative, and there will be a «brief conversation» about the various experiences and projects for the internationalization of traditional and regional products.

Participating in this conversation, moderated by journalist Alexandra Trindade, will be Ana Marques Pereira, author of several books on the universe of cuisine and cuisine over the centuries, as well as doctor and researcher in the history of food in the modern era, Álvaro Viegas, president of ACRAL, Tiago Cabral Ferreira, from Conserveira de Lisboa, Paulo Monteiro, sommelier at the Apolónia Supermercados Gourmet Store, in Almancil, and José Paulo Nunes, president of Apagarbe, who will address the “Production and Commerce of Medronho: Evolution and Perspectives regarding the your future".

The enclosure set up at the Municipal Heliport will be open, on both days, between 11:00 and 19:00, with exhibition and sale of brandy and honeydew by the producers, with “Reinvented Traditional Sweets” by the “Ana Maria” and “Doce&Arte” pastries, tasting of sweets and jams from medronho by “Doces da Julinha”, with an exhibition of bonbons from Medronho, by Maria Aline Ramos. There will still be a lounge Bar available to visitors.

Throughout the event, there will also be a Bottle Label Contest of the Medronho de Monchique Aguardente Producers present at the Festival, an exhibition of all brands of Aguardente de Medronho bottled in Monchique from the 40s to the present day and an Exhibition of Aguardente of the world.

At noon on Saturday, the 1st, there will be a session of showcooking entitled “Medronho, for these flavors out”, which will combine Peruvian cuisine with medronho, for the Head Valeria Olivari.

For 15:00 pm, a Show de Stand Up Comedy with Sandro Colaço, in the “Multibox” space, followed by the debate on the future and internationalization of medronho.

At 16:30 pm, the cuisine returns to the venue, with the Head Augusta Gervásio presenting “Medronho and local flavors”.

Half an hour later, Apagarbe will teach “How to drink medronho”, while, at 17:45 pm, the Grupo de Cantares da Confraria do Medronho will perform.

The presentation of the “Terra” project, a solidary record work, which arose after the fires of September 2016, in the Serra de Monchique, will take the music of Helena Madeira and OrBlua to the Festival do Medronho, at 18:00.

On Sunday, at noon, the Head Emídio Concha de Almeida presents “Medronho and the national flavors” and, at 15:00 pm, there is a new show by Stand Up Comedy, with Sandro Colaço.

Then, “Good ideas don't age and don't wear out. The modernization of traditional products such as medronho” is the subject of a debate, moderated by Marta Aragão, trainer and marketer.

João Pedro Santos de Sousa, from Quinta da Vida, José Conceição, vice president of the Association of Fig Producers of India, José Oliveira, general director of Areal, will participate in this conversation about the various experiences and projects for the modernization of traditional products. Ana Eva-Ferreira, from SFC Marketing e Publicidade, and Graça Batalim, Grand Chancellor of the Confraria do Medronho.

At 15:45 pm on Sunday, there will be a moment of magic with Carlos Rivotti, from the stills where the medronho brandy is made, and at 16:30 pm, cooking demonstrations with arbutus are scheduled, by the Head Emídio Concha Almeida.

The competition is scheduled to start at the same time. Flair Bartending, a contest of cocktails of arbutus.

Adriana Marques, Custódio Castelo and João Chora's fado takes the stage at 18 pm and, at 00 pm, there will be the official closing and prize-giving ceremony of the Medronho Brandy Bottle Label Contest, which will be taking place during the festival.

Outside the grounds, in the “medronho cathedrals”, that is, the distilleries, on April 31, 1 and 2, from 18:30 pm, there will be artistic meetings, through the Lavrar o Mar project, which proposes a discovery of «alchemical rituals the distillation of arbutus, listening to stories accompanied by delicious snacks».
