"Tonight a myth collapsed, the myth of the viability of exercising the policy of I want, I can and I command" by Macário Correia, he told the Sul Informação the chairman of the council of Faro of the PS.

Luís Graça, on the night of the first meeting of the new Political Commission Socialist Council, for whose presidency he has just been elected, challenged the PSD/CDS coalition to assess "if there are conditions" to continue at the head of the Chamber of Faro, after the president of the municipality Macário Correia was sentenced by the Supreme Administrative Court to loss of mandate.

“And we face this challenge for two political reasons: because the campaign for the Municipalities was very centered on the personality of the engineer Macário Correia and because, in these elections, the right won a tangential victory of only 0,4%”, said Luís Graça.

The conviction of Macário Correia, by the Supreme Administrative Court (STA), which determines the loss of his current term at the head of the autarchy of Faro, was known today, but the judgment dates back to June 20th.

The case is related to several licensing processes, when Macário Correia was still president of the Tavira Chamber, and in which he allegedly violated the Protal and the PDM.

According to the STA, the Algarvian mayor acted "with a high degree of guilt, when practicing the unlawful facts mentioned", which makes him "incur in the loss of office".

Macário Correia, in statements to the Sul Informação, revealed that already appealed the decision to the plenary of the STA, announcing for "soon" a public statement on the case.

In the Local Elections of October 2009, Macário Correia (PSD) and the coalition «Faro is First', which also included the CDS-PP, the MPT and the PPM, achieved an absolute majority in the Chamber of Faro, with only 130 votes (0,4%) of advantage over José Apolinário (PS), who then headed the autarchy.

The coalition «Faro está Primeira» obtained 13.340 votes (42,67%) and elected five councilors, while José Apolinário's PS obtained 13.210 votes (42,25%), electing four councilors.
