The “algarvia” Telma Santos debuted this Monday with a triumph in the women's singles badminton tournament at the London 2012 Olympic Games, defeating Sri-Lanka's Thilini Jayasinghe, by split 21-9, 21-11.

Newcomer in London, the 28-year-old CHE Lagoense athlete, ranking 73rd, gave Portugal the first victory in this sport at the Olympics, beating the 18th in the hierarchy in just 118 minutes.

Tomorrow, also at 13:42 pm and on field 2, the Portuguese player will face the young Thai Ratchanok Intanon.

Telma Santos is one of the four algarvian athletes at the Olympic Games taking place in London.
